Purple Haze

project: Thermal
source: knitty.com
yarn: Knit Picks Bare Superwash Merino/Nylon Fingering Weight - 3 1/2 hank
color: dyed in a semi-solid muted lavendar
needles: #2 circs

I finally got off my butt and seamed up Thermal. It turned out just perfect.

Like the recommended Knit Picks Gloss, the KP Bare I used also really ‘grew’ once blocked, so that a sweater I thought turned out a bit on the short, snug side, ended up fitting really well.

The only bad thing for me was I think my buttons were a little small, leaving a bit of a gap at the top (I have it safety pinned in the photos). It really needed a 3rd button, which I still might add on.

The shoulder closeup on the right really shows the true color I dyed. Lavender with little streaks of light, with an occasional blue streak here and there (you can see this more on the sleeves), mainly because I wasn’t that careful about letting all the dye powder specks dissolve in the dyebath. Overall, if you have the patience to knit a whole sweater in fingering weight (and I just barely did), then this pattern is a real comfy, wearable winner.

My only question is, where the heck is the colder Fall weather to go with this new sweater?

Your Thermal is beautiful - I love it in the lighter color - most of what I have seen are the darker shades.
Just a quick question on sizing since you said it did stretch a bit - when you chose the size to knit, did you plan on it being pretty snug? I like the fit you ended up with - I don’t know that I want it too snug, so I am trying to figure out what size to go with. Anyway- you have some beautiful finished sweaters! Thanks!

OMGosh! You knit this beautiful sweater on US #2 needles? WOW. It does look gorgeous on you!
At 8:41 pm on October 10, 2007, KathrynGrace commented:
It’s true! I mean it takes a long time and for some reason, the button band doesn’t come out the way you want it to. I had bigger buttons, but it pulled the fabric in a weird way. But yours looks better.
Cheers!

Gorgeous! And very dreamy. I just can’t find the motivation yet to knit an entire sweater on sock-knitting sized needles. Perhaps someday…
