Putting down roots…

Well it’s been hibernating all winter, but Rusted Root is at last ready for it’s debut.

project: Rusted Root
source: zephyrstyle.com
yarn: Elsebeth Lavold Silky Tweed - every scrap of 5 hanks
color: #005 pinky beige
needles: #6 & 4 Circs/dpns

rusted root

This yarn was really nice to work with, wonderful drape. The pretty lace detailing gets a little lost though. The tweed is subtle enough, but I don’t think the very pale color I chose helps.

It’s a super comfortable top, another fantastic pattern from those zephyr gals. I’m already planning another one, perhaps in the suggested rusty red-orange color.

My first offerings for Summer of Socks, I couldn’t choose between patterns (and let’s be honest, my mind tends to wander after 1 sock gets done), so here we have 2 pairs being worked on simultaneously.

cable rib socks

The first pair is the Cable Rib socks from Favorite Socks, done in Knit Picks Essential Tweed…

uptown boot socks

…the second pair is the Uptown Boot socks, from the same book. I’m so happy I finally settled on this pattern for this yarn (A Piece of Vermont superwash in Brick House).

Pretty! The different muted shades of red are really complimenting the stitch pattern. I’m also really, really glad I learned to cable without a cable needle, for BOTH of these pairs. ;)

Plans for more socks coming, matching yarns to patterns, etc. Thermal is still not seamed up; I really need to get off my butt and deal with it already!

Your Rusted Root is gorgeous. Great yarn sub. The tweediness and light color make the top very subtle (in a good way).

Oh, I love your rusted root! I think the silky tweed was a great choice. I made one in cotton fleece and it’s not quite drapey enough… Beautifully done!

Your RR is so pretty in that muted color. Very nice details. I love that yarn too! I made my Glee in it, and it is great. I actually picked up some of the Tweed recently for another garment - maybe a cardigan.

The socks are beautiful too. Particularly loving the boot socks :)

Your Rusted Root is lovely! I really like the silky tweed. Both pairs of socks are great, and I agree that the Uptown Boot Sock pattern really shows off the yarn well.

Your rusted root looks so pretty in this tweedy yarn. It has a very casual elegant effect. The cable rib sock yarn is so cute too - love the tiny blue bobs. Love the uptown socks in your variegated yarn too. Thanks for showing that it doesn’t have to be done in plain sock yarn :)

Yummmm! Your rusted root is just gorgeous - I think your yarn choice really elevates it; I liked it well enough in the original, but your FO makes me want to knit it. a perfect match!

I am so happy to see you knitting socks again! I adore the socks you always knit. These are both fantastic patterns. I like the combination of the cable with the ribs! Really shows up with this solid colorway too. Your top is so beautiful and a perfect fit on you!

Pretty pretty! I really like the RR color, though I kind of see what you mean about the detailing in the lace section. But it looks fab in the photos! And it fits you well… it’s so great when an FO fits well. *happy sigh*

I love those socks too - the cable sock pattern is on my list. One day! I keep telling myself (and others) that one day I will knit socks. I will! Just not today. :D

Lovely, looks so nice with the tweed. How is the yarn? I have been thinking about making Rusted Root for one of my next projects and I have been thinking about how I would like to try Silky Tweed. Maybe I should combine the two as well.

Your Uptown Boot Socks are looking great, too.
