a sweater with a story…

So cutaway is finished, in a great short-sleeved version which is just what I wanted. The reason for the modification has a little backstory. See, I had wanted some little something to wear over tanks and things for the occasionally chilly night-times. And then I found my inspiration, this little top which I stumbled upon on a few different knitting blogs, from some japanese knitting mag.

But, of course, no way to get the pattern (at least not in english). So when I came across cutaway, I thought it looked pretty much the same, basically a curvy, bolero/cardigan. Not that it isn’t a great pattern as-is, but this way I’m sorta getting 2 versions for one.

For anyone wanting the specifics, I modified the sleeves by casting on whatever number of stitches you’re supposed to have after all the increases (for my size, 82), did the 1″ ribbing, then switched to the larger needles and knit plain st st for 1 more inch, then started the sleeve cap shaping as the pattern instructed. I had to knit the sleeves twice, because at first I knit them 3″ before the sleeve cap, and they were too long (amazing how much smoother the body stitches are compared to the just-knit sleeves…will have to re-block it).

A light, summery cardi/bolero thingy similar to the inspiration pic, no? Once and a while everything comes together just right. ![]()

I love your version! I have the pattern sitting around, but I could never get motivated, but yours is so cute! How much yarn did it take? I have some birthday money to spend and I know what I want to get now
